Dot Com Not Listed in Regional Yahoo? Don’t Despair!

If you’re a non-American business with a .com web address, and your regional Yahoo ranking is important to you, then my story might interest you.

Recently my copywriting website dropped out of Yahoo’s Australian rankings. For quite a while, it had been at number 1 for my primary keywords “advertising copywriter”, “copywriter”, and “website copywriter”. But then it suddenly disappeared. I clicked through about 10 pages of results, and it was nowhere to be seen. I then searched for my domain, and Yahoo couldn’t find it.

Something smelt fishy.

I’d done nothing ‘naughty’ to my site to warrant a ban, and I still had heaps of links to my site (actually, I had more than ever before).

I’m an Australian advertising copywriter. I’m based just north of Sydney and I host my website with a major Australian host. But my web address is a .com, not a .au. I started thinking this might be the problem.

So I emailed Yahoo support, explaining the problem, and sharing my thoughts on the cause.

And all of a sudden, nothing happened.

So I waited. And I waited. And I waited. And finally, after about a couple of weeks, I received an email from a Yahoo support representative informing me – incorrectly – that my keyword wasn’t featured in my page title or description. I should remedy this shortcoming and re-submit my site to Yahoo.

Frustrated, I replied. I repeated the important facts from the first email just to ensure they’d listened. They hadn’t. They hadn’t even searched for my domain to confirm that Yahoo no longer recognised it.

When they got back to me this time, they had started paying a bit more attention. The support rep confirmed my suspicion that Yahoo had excluded my site because of its .com URL. Her very helpful solution was that I should change my domain to .au! She included some ridiculously complex instructions for how to do so, and sent me on my merry way.

As you might expect, I wasn’t satisfied. Nor was I merry. I explained to her that this was not an acceptable solution because all the links to my site on the internet are pointing to the .com and my email address uses the .com.

She was unmoved. She asserted that this was the best and only way to solve the problem. Oh… and it might help if I added my primary keyword to my title and description.

My laughter was not good humoured! I wrote back expressing my displeasure at this “solution”. I painstakingly explained how Yahoo had made a mistake, and that if Google was capable of recognising my Australian business despite its .com addresses, I would think it’s technically possible. I also cited several other .coms in the first couple of pages of Australian results.

No response.

The situation didn’t look promising…

If this sounds like a familiar story to you, don’t despair. A week or two later, I searched Yahoo Australia for my primary keyword, and surprise, surprise… My site was ranked number 1 again!

The moral to the story? Don’t be intimidated by Yahoo. Trust your instincts and don’t give up. If you’re an Australian business with a .com, and you’re not listed in Australian searches, this might be why. In fact, I would think this story is relevant to all regional Yahoos. (Of course, before making any accusations, it’s a good idea to make sure your site is properly optimised and that you have plenty of inbound links.)

Anyway, that’s my story. I hope it helps someone.

And they all lived happily ever after. So far at least…

Yahoooooooo!

The End.

Robotic Camels; Think Tank Discussion

Recently our Think Tank was discussing robotic camels and how cool they are. It is amazing that robotics has come so far. The Japanese have a robot, which can run without falling over and now a Swiss Firm is making a Camel Riders, which can be used to race camels which is a big thing in the Middle East. Isn’t that something?

One of our members Swift found after doing some research that the country of Qatar has enlisted the Swiss firm K-Team to create robotic camel jockeys. A human Camel Jockey like a Race Horse Jockey must be small and lightweight to give the Camel a competitive edge. But it is often hard to find skillful young people who can do this. There was some abuse as some of the racing groups have gone to South Asia and Africa to borrow children for use in this sport. It’s angered some folks, so they have turned to 35 pound robotic child jockeys. This is just one way robots are helping the human race and preventing kidnapping and eventually they may have robotic camels, too.

This was getting to be a lively topic at our think tank as I always thought Robot Wars was a good way to stop cock fighting, that seems mean to animals. Kind of cruel thing and with bird flu coming the last thing you want is bleeding chickens all over the place. If all these birds are culled, maybe that sport might stop. Although you never know with robotics, some one might create robotic chickens to fight; maybe the size of Big Bird?

Of course in the Middle East with all the fighting going on, the last thing you would want is a robot on a camel. Swift said that could be used as a weapon to attack coalition troops or God forbid a Hotel or Bus full of innocent civilians in a murderous and senseless act.

I cannot imagine the problems with something like that; a camel bomb? Talk about cruelty to animals, that is disgusting; although in the Russians attempted to use dogs in wartime, but when they got close to their targets sometimes the gunfire would scare them and they would run back and blow up and kill their masters instead. Dolphins have been used in wartime, but just to plant the detonation device and swim safely away. Apparently the United States has more noble sentiments towards animals than other cultures?

Swift told the Think Tank, what if one of these raced into an Iraqi Complex or Hotel in the Middle East and take the place out–homicidal camels. No one would be suspicious if several hundred entered a city and just took the entire place out. They might just think it was a race they’d not heard about. Camels move in kind of a stiff manner, so that wouldn’t be very difficult to replicate that kind of movement in a robotic version. People could be captured, then, or the jockey could yell “yahoo” and annihilate the place.

It appears to me that we may see more and more animals used in conjunction with robots. One recent researcher had figured out a way to put a surveillance camera on top of a turtle and if it went the wrong way the device vibrated and was unpleasant to the “Desert Turtle” causing it to go the intended direction and then take full motion video feed or digital pictures it would send wirelessly. Could even be used to search for Earthquake victims.

Swift indicated that there is a fish called the stargazer that would also make an interesting robotic survellience system. Which could be used in place of a fully robotic AUV Autonomous Underwater Vehicle. The fish It lies in the bottom of water sources and looks a lot like a death mask. It explodes vertically out of its lair and grabs fish, but might also rest on the bottom of a river and guard it and then come up for pictures if someone tried to cross or in wartime take out the infiltrating enemy, as it would be safer than landmines, which lay there for years after a war until some poor civilian trips the device and blows off a limb. The device would have a positioning GPS and could be detonated after the war or picked up. The robot could do the same thing as the evolved organic fish, but come out of the water and react like a heat seeking missile taking out warm blooded people as it moved parallel to the surface of the river.

I suppose like a flying MAV Micro-Air Vehicle “Pigeon” single mission bomb maybe used someday. Or maybe to fly in undetected as a fake robotic bird and take pictures. One problem with using robotic camels is they sound expensive to make and what about roadside bombs taking out your camel? Ah ha, A Trojan Camel indeed, maybe I read too much history, but it could work. The fish idea is totally interesting and could also be inflatable and blow up into a balloon and then go into the air for surveillance. I had designed a robotic manta ray like that or at least did some drawings and figured out the costs.

Swift said that there’s also an eel called the snake ell that is found in the area of Indonesia. It burrows into the volcanic sands so that only it’s head is sticking out of the water. Perhaps you might have seen it on the Science, Discovery or Animal Channel? This could be used to spy on China and Southeast Asia, because they have over 2000 industrial spies in our country already looking for military contractor secrets.

Since the eel is a predator, if someone saw one, they surely would not be approaching it, so it would be easy to keep it in an area without being disturbed. Both of these creatures are very primitive looking so would be easy to design. Both of these are found in the Lembeh Strait by Indonesia and live among the coral reefs there. There’s also a mantis shrimp that have complex stalk eyes that offer an almost 360 degree view.

I thought this was an innovative idea and the eel idea is easy to build using polymer muscles and could be beneficial. The 360-vision is generally an attribute of a prey species, not a predator species. But if people were scared of it, it would keep them away, wouldn’t it? Maybe it could shock anyone who got close too? Robotic Animals, fish and birds are fast approaching us and the wildlife generally ignore them, but are often curious; wondering what is this thing anyway? Think on these robotic topics.

How To Create A Spicy Mexican Kitchen

A good remodel can include alterations to flooring, lighting fixtures, decorative items and wall color as well as your kitchen table and chairs.

It’s not critical to have a matching table and chair set but the kitchen should have a variety of bright colored or rustic furniture. To really showcase the Mexican design style, try using items with a painted distressed finish.

Your window treatments are important to your Mexican home décor design. To get a great design in your kitchen go with using a simple valance or shutters or a wooden valance painted with distressed paint. There are numerous treatments that you can match up to this decorating style especially if you match fabrics to your window treatments, but you should take care to avoid heavy drapes or modernistic looking treatments.

Decorative accessories are a must to pulling your Mexican home décor look together. Even if you can’t do anything else – you can get a new look by adding different decorative items! Concentrate on buying tablecloths, dishware and canisters, in colors and patterns that match your Mexican design style. You won’t believe the impact a few simple changes can make! You should to include lots of old rustic pieces in addition to wrought iron pieces and you can even try some colorful hand painted wooden pieces to get a unique look for your kitchen. Incorporating additional touches like vintage hand painted Mexican pottery can make your room appear like it was done by a professional.

What’s on your floor can add to the decorating scheme, but if you can not buy new flooring in your kitchen then work with your floors by covering them with area rugs that have a Mexican look. If you do want to go with new floors, try rustic hard wood or tile floors.

Lighting is necessary in your home and the kitchen is no exception. To compliment your Mexican home décor design, you should consider light fixtures in terms of type as well as style. When you are incorporating a Mexican look, try a tin chandelier with scrolly metal wall sconces or anything wrought iron or rustic looking.

A vital ingredient when decorating your kitchen with a Mexican inspired style is your wall coverings. For this decorating style the room colors make a big difference – consider adding reds and bright blues either in your wall color or your accessories. Try using a stucco on the walls, or maybe go with faux paint that resembles plaster. You don’t have to get too fancy or spend a lot of money and if you are afraid of too much color, simply paint the walls a neutral shade and put the color into your flooring and accents.

The most important and most fun part is adding art and decorations to your walls. Try adding a hand painted mural or hang some vintage Mexico travel prints to your kitchen walls to really bring out the spice of your Mexican design style. You can also fill the wall with mexican pottery plates and platters hung in wrought iron plate holders or hang shelves and fill them with colorful and interesting Mexican clay jugs.

Getting a great Mexican look in your kitchen doesn’t have to take a lot of money or time. Smart shopping for accessories and making a few simple changes can add a little zing to your room in no time!

Real World Virtual Poker Tells

Just because you are playing online poker with, say, a student in London, a couple of waiters in Paris, a bus driver in New York, and a housewife in Berlin, it does not mean that you cannot pick up a few of their tells from the comfort of your own home. There are some nervous poker traits that are universal, no matter one’s nationality, age or gender. The level of a player’s chatter is one such quality to monitor. If a player, who often types messages as he plays, changes the tone or length of his missives, or if a rash of spelling errors suddenly show up, it could denote a shift in his normal concentration, or perhaps he is trying to shut himself up so as not to give anything away. Similarly, if a player who normally places his bet quickly begins taking his time, or a slow, careful wagerer speeds up or starts automatically betting, then proceed with caution. Finally, try to keep track of which players tend to fold early on a questionable flop and which stay in no matter what. Then, when you find yourself late into a game, you can use that knowledge to better judge who has the real goods.

You Too Can Have Charisma

Do you know anyone that everyone seems to be drawn to? You continue to watch as this person moves around the room attracting and chatting with and making friends with many
people.

What do they have that you don’t think you have? Charisma.

Professor of psychology Howard Friedman (University of California-Riverside) is a specialist in non-verbal communication. He defines charisma as “a certain presence.”

When charismatic people enter a room, their mere presence draws attention and their energy may radiate to enliven the entire gathering. At the core of this charisma, says Friedman, is “a basic self-confidence” and the ability to project this to others.

Look inside, you have the makings for charisma too.

Charisma is that special quality of magnetism that each person has and that each person uses to a certain degree. The people who look up to you, who respect and admire you, the members of your family and your friends and co-workers would probably say that they find you charismatic.

Why? Because whenever one person feels a positive emotion towards another, he imbues that person with charisma

To develop charisma, you just need to learn how the charismatic person acts and how they think.
You too will be able to inspire people, ignite their enthusiasm, persuade them to see things your way, and do what you want them to-without creating defensiveness or resentment.

You see, that’s the beauty of charisma. Charisma doesn’t turn you into a crafty trickster, pulling the wool over people’s eyes and fooling them. When you unleash your charisma — which is really just saying when you live and speak authentically, from a place of “inner truth” — people will naturally want to be on your side.

A quick remedie for an annoying tennisarm is in your reach

Nevertheless, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 7 minutes in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable. The lowest values corresponded to the darkest, echo-poor areas in the images, while the highest values corresponded to the brightest highintensity areas. Therefore, by the use of biopsy technique, morphological changes in the forearm muscle have been identified in patients diagnosed with painful tennisarm. Further, the finding of a well preserved force capacity in the muscle indicating unaffected contractile tissue was corroborated by the results from the ultrasound grey-scale analysis for 7 months. Indeed, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 9 hours.

B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on nine patients with unilateral annoying tennisarm. Moment arm was measured and the wrist extension torque was calculated for 3 days. Results are presented as mean. However, there were no significant differences after 8 years.

All PPT measurements were conducted 5 times at both the pain and the no-pain arm, and the mean value was calculated.

Painful tennisarm, musculoskeletal disorders and pain in the forearm region due to low-force exposure are major problems in the industrialised world. Next 7 weeks, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. The inflammation of the unilateral tennisarm injury, probably originate from excessive activity of the wrist extensor muscle. Indeed, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the gone 7 months.

The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 677 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the past 4 weeks.

Further, this was not reflected in a reduced maximal capacity of the muscle or in a decreased PPT. Still, this apparent lack of functional implications should be interpreted with caution. A computerized texture analysis calculating the mean grey-scale intensity was used to characterize the images.

For 7 days gain settings were standardized and kept constant. Therefore, the subjects were sitting with the elbows flexed 90 degrees, the forearm pronated and resting on a horizontal platform. Each image consisted of pixels with greyscale values ranging from 425 to 473. The diameter of the contact area was 53 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 921 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain.

Is Dish Network Right For Me?

Are you one of the many consumers currently considering making the switch to satellite TV from cable TV but are overwhelmed with the options? Don’t worry, you are not alone. More and more people are deciding to make the transition to satellite TV but don’t know where to start. Hopefully, this article will help clear up some of the confusion by giving you an overview of one of the most popular providers of satellite TV, Dish Network.

Pricing

The first question everyone asks is “How much does it cost?”. Truthfully, it all depends on the options you choose to include in your plan, which can be customized to suit virtually any need. Dish Network’s cheapest plan, America’s Top 60, starts at just $31.99. This includes access to the 60 most popular channels in America. For the person who wants a solid variety of programming but doesn’t want any extra frills, this is the way to go. From here, Dish Network offers more extensive programming packages that top out with the master of them all, the “America’s ‘Everything’ Package”. This is for the person who literally wants it all. For a modest $86.99, it includes the 180 most popular channels as well as 31 movie channels. With this many choices, nobody should ever have a problem finding something to watch!

In addition to the ‘America’s Top’ series programming listed above, Dish Network also provides numerous other specialty packages including your Local channels, Sports, Movies, International, and HDTV. These packages can be mixed with the ‘America’s Top’ plans to create the programming just right for you.

Aside from programming, there may be some other nominal fees included if your package needs to support additional rooms, HDTV, and/or DVR:

Additional TVs

With any Dish Network programming package, your first two (non-HD) TV connections are free, but there may be an extra monthly charge for more than two TVs.

HDTV

As the home theater industry continues to grow at an increasing rate, high end equipment is quickly becoming more common in today’s homes. High definition television certainly falls into this category and Dish Network is there to accommodate. With their HDTV program you’ll receive free activation, six months of service for free, and your choice of 7 different receivers to choose from. After your free six months of HDTV service is up, the monthly charge becomes $9.99 plus another $5.00 for each additional receiver.

DVR

Another popular feature in home theaters that Dish Network provides for is DVR technology. This will allow you to record your favorite shows and watch them at your convenience. The free Dish Network DVR receiver will digitally store all your shows and movies in one place so there are no tapes or discs to keep track of. Simply navigate through the on screen menu, enter the name of the show you want to record, and that’s it! As with the HDTV program, Dish Network offers free installation and your choice of 7 receivers. There is an additional fee for each DISH Player-DVR of $4.98.

While this review is specifically on Dish Network, only one of the satellite TV providers available today, the products and services they offer remain quite comparable to their competitors and could be taken as a general review of the industry as a whole. When considering which satellite tv provider to go with, you must first decide what your specific needs are and then find the provider that best suits your situation. Home entertainment is a rapidly growing industry and is becoming more and more competitive each day. This is great news for you, the customer! This surge in competition coupled with regular advances in technology guarantee that the options available to you are only going to get better and cheaper in the months and years to come.
