Zimmer Durom Hip Lawsuits Not Good for Patients

Many people who received durom acetabulum applied in their hip cup replacement surgeries are witnessing that there are negative ramifications that far exceed the typical expectations for recovery. These individuals are experiencing a lot of excess pain for longer periods of time, required to undergo revision surgical operations and enlarged medical costs, and losing revenue by not being able to work at their regular occupations. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their hip cup implant is in no way faulty and not to be held accountable for the faulth cup hip implants, numerous implant recipients are filing lawsuits against them and accepting settlements.

During the month of October, 2008 Zimmer announced that it had set aside $47.5 million to pay for claims filed against them. Many physicians have reservations that the hip device is as good as the company says it is. In fact, when Zimmer provided online training to physicians in order to teach them what was supposedly more precise methods for executing the implant operation, roughly 1/2 of the MD’s declined to take part. Hence, the entire situation proceeds to be nerve-wracking for everyone involved, but none more than the hundreds of individuals who are needing a revision surgical operation due to the issues with their implant not staying secure in the socket.

These troubled individuals definitely deserve some aid and restitution which obviously is why product liability attorneys are supporting them by telling them to start the lawsuit process. durom hip resurfacing has been settling some of these claims, too. All The Same, even if the money they are being offered sounds like alot to them, in many cases implant recipients are resolving too fast and with no allowance being made for on-going problems down the road. If they don’t wait to find out what an actual case is worth, individuals could find themselves paying thousands of dollars out of their own pocket when further complications arise.

Anyone who thinks they do have a claim against Zimmer needs to start peering into it. If you believe you could qualify, you should probably call a lawyer to be certain. Look for a firm that covers nationally and who has a main focus on litigation against faulty medical devices. This law firm has gone so far as to setup a special section to do the research and handle the claims against Zimmer and win substantial settlements for their customers.

If your orthopedic surgeon breaks the news that will have to have a revision surgical process to repair your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, get in touch with an attorney as soon as humanly possible.

Tips for First Time Authors : 2 Easy Steps to Make Your First Book a Success

Congratulations on writing your first book. That is quite an accomplishment. Many people dream of writing a book, but you actually did it. Way to go.

At this point you are probably wondering where to get started, who to contact, how to even take the first step. Don’t worry, that is very common. And now you’ve found a great resource to help you.

Step #1

Create a map for yourself.

If you want to get somewhere you need to know where you are and where you want to be. Then you figure out how you are going to get there. Yet many first time authors jump in with the how to get there specifics – getting reviews, making it onto bookstore shelves, creating a website.

Instead, start by figuring out your goals. What do you want to happen with your book? Be very specific. Try writing down at least 10 goals for your book. If that was easy, write down 25.

Next, figure out what you have to bring to the project. How much money are you able to invest? How much time can you spend doing marketing? Be realistic. You can make your marketing work with whatever budget you have and time you can allocate.

Then you can start finding specific marketing actions that match your goals and resources. By knowing your goals and resources you can find the exact marketing tools to make your goals a reality within your time and money budget.

Step # 2

Avoid the common mistakes.

Hundreds of thousands of people write books every year. Tens of thousands of these authors are doing it for the first time. It is only natural that some of the same mistakes are made over and over. Once you know what they are you can avoid making them and get ahead with your book faster.

The single most common mistake we see is authors who fail to clearly define their target market. They believe that “everyone” will buy their book.

They waste their valuable resources trying to market to an audience that is too broad. Let me give you an example from the TV show The Apprentice.

Two teams are in New York trying to sell wedding dresses. One team goes to Grand Central Station where there are tons of people and hands out flyers to everyone walking by. The other team stays in the office, goes online and buys an email list from a popular wedding site (theknot.com) of couples getting married who live in the New York area.

The first team trying to sell to “everyone” is reaching tons of people who simply do not care about what they are selling for one very simple reason – they are not getting married.

Will any amount of marketing on the team’s part convince them that they need a wedding dress? NO.

Does it even matter how great the wedding dresses are made?
NO.

The other team however, has found the perfect target market – people who live in New York who are getting married.

Do you see the difference? Marketing to people who ALREADY CARE about your book’s subject and forgetting the rest of the people who don’t care is the ONLY smart way to do marketing.

Profit From Effective Public Speaking

Developing and utilizing presentation skills can result in increased income for you. Here are a few ways that you can turn your public speaking experience into business profits.

1. Free Speeches to Promote Your Business

A lawyer might make a speech to a group of business persons, free of charge, about the advantages of incorporating their businesses. This could result in obtaining new clients. It could also cause existing clients to purchase additional services, such as incorporations, minute book work, income tax election filings, and so on.

2. Paid Seminars, Workshops and Teleclasses

You could charge admission fees to attend a seminar entitled “How To Incorporate Yourself Without a Lawyer”. This seminar could detail the considerations and mechanics of incorporating your own private corporation.

3. Sell Information Products

The information presented during a speech or seminar could form the basis for information products such as books, courses, special reports or folios, audios, videos, DVDs, electronic books, and so forth. For example, you could write a book entitled “How To Incorporate Yourself Without a Lawyer”.

Including such products as handouts at your seminar would increase the value for the attendees (which you could charge for). Even if you gave a free speech to a group, you could still receive back-end income from the sale of such information products.

Obviously, your public speaking skills will be especially important when producing an audio or video cassette. Your listeners and viewers will make certain judgments based on your personal appearance, poise, audience contact, use of gestures, enthusiasm, how informative the material is, and many other factors.

Your information products establish your credibility as an expert, resulting in even more business. As well, you can market those same information products through mail order, direct mail, Internet marketing, and other methods.

4. Consulting and Other Opportunities

As your reputation as an expert in your specialized field grows, you will become more in demand. Clients may seek you out for lucrative speaking engagements. You may be invited to write magazine articles, consult for large corporations, act as an expert trial witness, become a syndicated columnist, et cetera.

Therefore, whether you are a novice or an experienced public speaker, it pays to increase and utilize your public speaking skills.

Hero’s Journey and Story Structure – Belly of the Whale

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

• Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

• Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

• Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

The Hero’s Journey is also a study of repeating patterns in successful stories and screenplays. It is compelling that screenwriters have a higher probability of producing quality work when they mirror the recurring patterns found in successful screenplays.

Consider this:

• Titanic (1997) grossed over $600,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

• Star Wars (1977) grossed over $460,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

• Shrek 2 (2004) grossed over $436,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

• ET (1982) grossed over $434,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

• Spiderman (2002) grossed over $432,000,000 – uses the Hero’s Journey as a template.

• Out of Africa (1985), Terms of Endearment (1983), Dances with Wolves (1990), Gladiator (2000) – All Academy Award Winners Best Film are based on the Hero’s Journey.

• Anti-hero stories (Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990) etc are all based on the Hero’s Journey).

Belly of the Whale

One critical element of the Hero’s Journey is the stage of the Physical Separation (Belly of the Whale). During this stage, it is not uncommon for the physical features or physical body of the hero to be altered or damaged in some way:

a) In The Godfather (1972), Captain McCluskey punches and deforms Michael Corleone’s face. The gradual transformation of his face is symbolic of his transformation from innocent to Mafia Don.

b) In Silence of the Lambs (1991), Clarice enters the garage from beneath the stuck door and injures herself.

c) In Lord of War (2005), Yuri is shot by the drug dealer for resisting the acceptance of cocaine as payment for the arms.

It’s All About YOU!

The Hottest Word on the Web

Did you know marketing people and copywriters are developing a science about writing for readers in this new medium called the Web? In fact, they use carefully selected words to catch a reader’s attention. Here are a few:

These words are not in any order of importance or frequency. If you have been surfing the Web for any length of time you will see these words a lot. I have intentionally omitted the BIG word on the Web until now. Most web usability experts, agree the word with the strongest appeal is…YOU! Yes, YOU is the hottest word on the Web.

Tune in to WIIFM

You probably don’t write ad copy for a large advertising agency but you can still learn from what they know. It’s agreed by many marketers that most people are listening to WIIFM in their heads. What’s WIIFM? It means “What’s In It For Me?” That’s right; people want to know, “What will I get?” out of a large banner ad on a web site or even the little article you worked so hard to write.

People really don’t care, and really don’t want to know, you spent half the night writing your heart out. They only want to know what they will get out of your article. You need to tell them or you won’t get their attention.

Write to Connect

Let’s look at how you can write to connect with readers on the Web. Let’s take a phrase and rewrite it.

“Writing for the Web is easy once a few things about readers are recognized.”

This is not a bad sentence; it just lacks a hook to pull the reader in. The hook is only one word; YOU. Let’s rewrite it.

“You can write for the Web! It’s easy when you recognize a few things about your readers.”

Okay, this may not be the greatest sentence in the world. But the question is, “Did you feel pulled into the sentence?” You probably did because of that one word, YOU. Writing to connect with your readers on the Web means using one word, YOU, repeatedly and without apology.

Remember YOU is, and always will be, important to your reader. Write for YOU and you will connect with your readers. It’s all about YOU! Write to connect with YOU and you will write to inspire sales and your writing career!

11,113 BC to 2011 AD

I used to have trouble falling asleep at night, but now I turn on the beautiful music of family radio and I feel comfort. I know that when I have this radio station on, I will not be bombarded by the temptations and sickness of the flesh and the world. Instead, I am blessed by Godly teaching. Not only is there plenty of biblical teaching and prophesy about how close we are to the end, there is also practical advice and information for everyday living. There’s a doctor that comes on at least twice a day to talk about common ailments like diabetes, asthma, etc. There’s other speakers that come on to talk about the importance of forgiveness, patience, and mercy. There’s other speakers that come on to talk about community issues like poverty and homelessness. In short, everything on family radio is Godly, not worldly.

Harold Camping is the name of the President of family radio and he has some unusual beliefs that are hard to swallow for many people. However, Harold has studied the bible for longer than most of use have been alive. He has a program on every evening called the “Open Forum” where he takes questions from callers all over the United States. One of the most common questions he gets is how can the church age be over. I won’t attempt to get into his teaching in such a short article, but I invite you to listen to his program sometime and see for yourself how much sense it makes to you.

Harold shows from the bible that the world begun in 1113 B.C. He has a book that was just released called “Time has an End” where he shows from the bible how the bible shows the age of the earth. He also explains how the great flood happened and how that skews the way scientist try to date things and come up with ages for the earth that are wrong. More important, Harold claims that the world will come to end in 2011 and this cause the most stir among Christians today. They will call can tell Harold that the bible says “no one knows the day or the hour”. And, Harold says that is corrrect, no one does know the day or the hour. But, that doesn’t mean that no one can know the year. He goes on to explain how in Noah’s day nobody believed Noah that he knew about the great flood. And, in just the same way many people will not believe Harold about the end of the world.

The good news however, is that there is a great multitude which no man can number will be saved. Who knows, perhaps you are one of these saved individuals. If you are, you will be delighted by what you hear on this radio station. Everything from the Godly hymns, teaching, and doctrine will be pleasing to you. Visit familyradio.com to listen live online. Join Paltalk and look for the room called “The Bible Only” to chat with other listeners.

Poker Warfare – Play the Player

Winning players playing poker online know that it is more than the cards that count when playing at the casino. To be successful, one has to read other people to find weaknesses to exploit, and to recognize when to an opponent has you beat.

The Art of War says, “A smart general avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but attacks when it is sluggish and ready to return home. This is the art of studying moods.”

It is also wisdom with practical application in poker online. By observing people, you an often pick up signs that they are excited and confident. Sometimes a player hits a rush of good luck, and one must defer to these circumstances with very tight play. And the reverse is true too.

A player whose energy and spirits are flagging will probably not exercise the best judgment. It might be easier to chase them off the pot or to trap them into calling bets against your winning hand.

Sun Tzu recognized the power of exploiting “tilt” – the condition players fall into when emotions take over after a bad beat or when fatigue sets in. “If your opponent is angry, seek to irritate him.” This is when to engage in some “trash talk” at the table. Dare a tired beaten opponent to call your raise, or stare down someone who seems weak, commenting on how you will beat them if they call.

First gauge your opponent’s mood, then decide on whether to launch an attack on the weak, or retreat from the strong.

Writing from Home: It Can Be Great and Not-So-Great for Mothers

I went to school to be a teacher. In fact, I have a B.S. in Education, not journalism.

Due to the hours and holidays, teaching is traditionally thought to be the best work for a mother who wants to keep one foot in the mommy-door and one foot in the career-door. This thought, paired with my love for children and learning, led me to life inside the schoolhouse doors.

Soon though, writing, not teaching, became my real “full time job,” and it’s been years since I set foot behind a teacher’s podium.

There are times I miss teaching and regret I haven’t used my diploma more, but who am I kidding? — freelance writing has to be the best situation for a stay-at-home mother: I get paid, I do something I love, and I don’t leave the kids. What’s more? I can stay in my pajamas all morning!

Sometimes people ask if the lack of structure and absence of a physical “office” bother me and make it hard to concentrate. Sure, I get sidetracked watching a great episode of Rolie Polie Olie with my son every now and then, and I take long, leisurely breaks to chat on the phone or go to lunch, but this isn’t because I “work at home,” it’s because I’m an artist.

I only write when inspired and when it “feels right.” Even if I sat behind a desk all day, I’d still piddle around and get distracted — it’s my nature to jump from project-to-project, then zero-in on a particular piece when the mood strikes me. This is the artist in me. Just as a painter cannot be told, “Paint, now!” a writer cannot sit in front of a blank screen and expect great things to flow.

My best pieces, in fact, are written while I do such things as stand in line at the grocery store and wait at a red light, or during a commercial break from Oprah.

As I’m sure any artist can relate, I usually get a “feeling” when I have a great story brewing in my mind. This is, I think, the blessing and curse of creativity, because sometimes that “feeling” comes in the middle of a dinner party or at two o’clock in the morning and I have to race to find paper and jot my thoughts down. My husband has grown accustomed to me running in the door, heading straight to the computer and yelling as I go, “Can’t talk….got a story on my mind….need to get it on paper!”

So, while I love this profession for its adaptability with the children and being a mother, sometimes the unpredictable nature of my creativity poses a few problems. For instance, if inspiration causes me to stay up until 3 a.m. writing a great column, I’m little use to my high-energy children a few hours later when they get up at the crack-of-dawn.

Yes, I have the luxury of lounging in my pajamas and not going to an “office,” but I struggle with the spontaneous nature of this business and the chaotic schedule it sometimes poses for my children and me.

I guess though, even if things were different and my life was more structured, I’d still be a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of girl…that’s just the life of an artist.
