Why might an IVA be right for me?
In general, an IVA is useful for people with very large debts – usually £15,000 or more – who cannot see themselves being able to repay that debt in full within a reasonable time period.
Until IVAs became available, the only real option for people in this situation was bankruptcy. Bankruptcy can still be the most appropriate option for some people, but an IVA is widely considered to be a preferable alternative, since it avoids some of bankruptcy’s downsides (such as losing your home).
As with any debt solution, you should always consult your debt adviser to establish whether an IVA is right for your circumstances. It may be that an alternative debt solution, such as a debt management plan, would be more effective in helping you to reduce your debts.
How does an IVA work?
Before you begin an IVA, you will work with your Insolvency Practitioner (IP) to draw up your IVA proposal. This details the terms of your agreement – how much you are able to pay to each of your lenders, how long you will make payments for, etc.
Your creditors will then be invited to ‘vote’ on whether or not they approve the proposed terms. Creditors accounting for at least 75% of your total debt must approve the terms for the IVA to go ahead.
If it is approved, the IVA will begin and you will start making regular monthly payments to your Insolvency Practitioner. This will then be divided amongst your creditors, normally on a pro rata basis (according to what percentage of your total debt each creditor is owed).
Your IVA will normally last for five years. On successful completion, your remaining debt will be written off, and you will be legally debt free.
However, since the IVA will be recorded on your credit history for six years after the start, there will still be a record of your IVA for a further year, which will affect your ability to obtain credit.

I hate to admit it, I even think I’ll be misunderstood, but there are several time wasters I encounter throughout the day that can negatively impact my business. Let’s be honest: the internet is a cool tool, but there are enough distractions to it that can keep you from what you really need to do: make money. Here is my short list of things that are real time wasters:
Blogging — Yeah, I like to blog. Love it even. Still, there are times that blogging can become an end to itself. What is my page rank? How do I rate with Technorati? This particular blog is my favorite — I manage 7 of them — but some of the seven aren’t worthy of my daily thoughts. Just thought that you would like to know!
Forums — Going back 8 or 9 years I used to regularly participate on this one particular, not-to-be-named forum. Got into a lot of heated arguments, but I still had some fun. When it all adds up, the only thing I can chalk up to experience is that spending too much time on any forum is a real time waster. Okay, I still like forums, so I control my time usage.
Web Pages — Tweak, I must! There is no such thing as a “done” web page. Maybe overdone! There are times that I simply have to stop making updates and simply go with the page as it is. No one else cares about the javascript, the background color, the font as much as I do. Why sweat it?
Ad Networks — Three years ago I relied heavily on banner ads to help generate revenue. All that work for the occasional $25 monthly check…not worth it!
PPC Schemes — Some plans are better than others. Personally, I haven’t found one that works as well as Google’s AdSense program although the Yahoo! Publisher Network is improving. For 30 consecutive months I have made the monthly minimum payouts with AdSense — even generating that much money in just one day — so it is a good program. Still, I don’t have time to monitor every ad on every page on every site.
So, there you have it. My short list of time wasters. I am sure that there are more, but you probably have already gotten my point.

How can we step outside what we know and still create stories that come to life; that don’t scream “I’ve never stepped foot in a Harlem strip club in my life, but I’m sure there must be lobster tanks in them somewhere because I need the lobsters for my plot device”? How can we infuse authenticity in a scene that takes place in an alternate reality where cops don’t exist and all people from Rhode Island have blue skin?
One word: research.
We have this wonderful tool called the Internet. If you’re reading this newsletter, you have access to it-and it’s all free. You can find anything about anything, if you know where to look. And your research doesn’t have to stop there. Remember libraries? Sometimes, when you do a little writing like I do, you get tipped off as to what upcoming books and authors are really gonna be hot. And folks, I’ve got a book title and an author’s name for y’all that I think may be the hottest of this entire year. The book’s title?

This book is an absolute scream, the literary equivalent of “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” It was actually written by a very talented group of science fiction authors who put it together as a sting on a vanity, print-on-demand publisher out of Maryland called Publish America who tries to disguise themselves as a traditional publishing house. (Translated, they tell people they’re picky about what they will publish, but the reality appears to be that they will publish almost anything). This group of authors decided to put them to the test – they deliberately wrote a horrible book, submitted it, and guess what? This “publisher” offered them a publishing contract. I kid y’all not.
